Sarah Brown

Sarah Brown, an M.F.A. graduate of Yale School of Drama, is an actor, director, published playwright, published songwriter, solo performer, Fulbright Scholar and professor of performance at the University of Memphis. Sarah has acted in film and television as well as regional and New York theatre. Her plays, published and unpublished, have been performed throughout the regional United States and Canada as well as the cities of London and New York. Additionally, she has performed her darkly comic solo shows internationally at venues and theatre festivals in Tel Aviv, New York City, Los Angeles, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Sarah received a Fulbright Scholarship to teach Solo Performance Development and Commedia del 'Arte for a year at the University of Haifa, Israel during which time she began co-creating and directing site-specific theatre and theatre with giant puppets. Since then she has co-written and directed groundbreaking site-specific giant puppet shows in Jerusalem, Israel and Izmir, Turkey. Most notably, her co-creation in Turkey, Angels of the Chimney, performed in a 150 year old coal gas factory and was lauded as an historic  'first ever' site-specific giant puppet show in that country for Izmir's 2013 International Puppet Festival: Kukla Gunleri.

Through her long time relationship with New York theatre professionals, Sarah has enabled the internships of many University of Memphis undergraduates in a special program for burgeoning actors and directors in New York City called SPRINGBOARD-NYC: a program sponsored by the American Theatre Wing to help acclimate and prepare young talent for an artistic life in the Big Apple. Sarah teaches stage acting, acting for T.V. and film, solo performance writing and performing and Commedia del 'Arte.
