Stephen Fife – His new play Blue Kiss recently finished a run as part of the Hollywood Fringe, where one critic called it “a sly and brilliant conundrum.” His other new play, The American Wife – co-written with Ralph Pezzullo - has been chosen by HB Playwrights in New York City for their fall reading series. Steve co-founded and ran The Young Actors Workshop in Venice CA for five years, directing kids 7-15 in original musicals he wrote for them, including Charming and Young Forever. (Young Forever was also performed by teens in Tokyo.) He recently co-edited a book of Monologues for Kids (One on One: Playing With A Purpose) just published by Applause Books. His evening of adult comedies, This Is Not What I Ordered, is published by Samuel French. Other plays: Sizzle Sizzle, Savage World (named a Top Ten production of 2008 in Los Angeles by Backstage West), Mickey’s Home, The Battle of Light and Darkness, Scattered Blossoms. His adaptation of Sholem Asch’s play God of Vengeance was produced by the Jewish Repertory Theatre in NYC, then later in Tel Aviv (in Hebrew) and in Atlanta, where it was directed by Joseph Chaikin. Steve wrote about this in his memoir BEST REVENGE: How the Theater Saved My Life and Has Been Killing Me Ever Since (CUNE Press). A graduate of Sarah Lawrence & Columbia’s School of the Arts (MFA), Steve was the first literary manager for Primary Stages (NYC). He has written feature articles for The New York Times, New Republic, Village Voice, New York Newsday, American Theatre. He also writes screenplays, including an adaptation of his play Sizzle Sizzle. His screenplay The Falling Man has won several awards. He is currently writing a memoir about his encounters with an abusive high school teacher, aspects of which were made reference to in an article in this past April’s New Yorker.
