Accounting Manager

Samuel French, Inc., the world’s premiere theatrical play publisher and licensing company, is hiring an Accounting Manager to join our extraordinary team. The Accounting Manager is responsible for the accounting operations of the company, to include the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Management

  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  • Oversee the operations of the accounting department

Transactions

  • Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner
  • Ensure that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable
  • Ensure that accounts receivable are collected promptly
  • Ensure that past due balances are sent to collections in a timely manner
  • Process payroll in a timely manner
  • Ensure that periodic bank reconciliations are completed
  • Maintain the chart of accounts
  • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
  • Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions

Reporting

  • Issue timely and complete financial statements
  • Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management
  • Complete monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations and provide to CFO for review
  • Assist with data analysis projects as necessary

Compliance

  • Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors/accountants when necessary
  • Audit the work of the accounting department

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 6 years experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting (or related Business field)
  • Master’s Degree in Accounting (or related Business field) desired (completed or in progress)
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize a variety of projects in a busy department
  • Organized with the ability to show initiative, take responsibility, and follow through on projects
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Applicants must enjoy working as part of a motivated team and be willing to support other team members when help is needed
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
