In a run-down movie theater in central Massachusetts, three underpaid employees mop the floors and attend to one of the last 35 millimeter film projectors in the state. Their tiny battles and not-so-tiny heartbreaks play out in the empty aisles, becoming more gripping than the lackluster, second-run movies on screen. With keen insight and a finely-tuned comic eye, The Flick is a hilarious and heart-rending cry for authenticity in a fast-changing world.

"CRITIC’S PICK. Hilarious and touching...Annie Baker, one of the freshest and most talented dramatists to emerge Off Broadway in the past decade, writes with tenderness and keen insight. Annie Baker is my new favorite playwright. On the surface, even less seems to happen than in a play by Beckett or Chekhov, yet I found myself deeply moved by these very ordinary characters and awed by Baker's ability to capture their language, their long pregnant silences, their awkward attempts to connect. I immediately bought her collected plays and decided, yes, this writer is brilliant, consistently so. Requires very skilled actors; without them, sitting through her plays would be a chore. With them, a revelation.
