Perfect for any performing group, this is the hilarious story of a theater group trying desperately to put on a play in spite of maddening interference from a haughty author who keeps revising the script. Act I is a rehearsal of the dreadful show, Act II is the near disastrous dress rehearsal, and the final act is the actual performance in which anything that can go wrong does. When the author decides to give a speech on the state of the modern theatre during the curtain calls, the audience is treated to a madcap climax to a thoroughly hilarious romp. Even the sound effects reap their share of laughter.

I directed this a few years ago, and loved it (as did the audience). It's one of those that everyone has to completely buy into. It's a very visual show, but the key is to have good actors who can play bad actors (without going too over-the-top) and make a strong distinction between the actors and their acting in the roles they play in the inner play.

Play up the sight gags. Especially in Act III (which in our case, the audience went nuts over) - but the similar gags in Acts I and II have to be firmly planted to pay off in Act III

Was in a production of this play, and the audience does not react to any of the jokes, the writing is poor, and it is 3 acts of waiting for it to be over
