A SAMUEL FRENCH, INC. TITLE
Short Play, Comedy / 3w, 1m
Margaret Bland
An amusing and touching comedy of the South. A mountain girl yearns for new pink clothes, and a woman from the outside world brings her a present which is, unfortunately, another patched dress. Can be done by an all female cast.…
TEXIE - a wistful, young girl of fifteen whose whole life has been spent in the drudgery of a cabin home. The presence of city people in a newly opened summer resort has given her a glimpse of life beyond the hills where she was born and has awakened in her an innate love of the beautiful.
REXIE - Texie's twin brother, who has no new ideas nor new ambitions but clings to the old notion of his Pa that "womin folks" were created for the sole purpose of working for their "men folks."
MA - the mother of Texie and Rexie, a woman who leads a hard life without bitterness and with unbroken spirit.
MRS. ALLEN - a woman of society who in her brief visits to the mountains, has opened up to Texie a world hitherto unimagined.
