Summary
Gusty Goodrich, a lively girl of fifteen has been told she must spend her entire summer vacation at home. When the doctor discovers that his daughter is hiring her young friends to do housework for her by giving them tennis lessons, he is furious and resolves on sterner methods in moulding Gusty to his own ideas of what a young girl should be. Then an invalid girl, Carol Dean, is brought to the doctor's home office and it occurs to him that building up the invalid's morale and coaxing her to make an effort to use long-stiffened muscles might be just the thing to keep Gusty busy during the summer. So the doctor invites Carol to spend a few wreeks with them, and Gusty undertakes her care and reformation with a will, aided by her side-kick, sixteen-year-old Arthur Peterson. All their crowd take an interest in helping Gusty and Arthur renew Carol's interest in life and in raising money for her. Carol is not a sweetness-and-light invalid but a real problem-child, and Gusty has her hands full. How Carol's selfishness and Gusty's kindly determination to help her finally result in a situation so bad that even Carol is frightened into good behavior.
