CLOSER THAN EVER opened at the Cherry Lane Theatre in New York on November 6, 1990. Running for 312 performances, the original cast included Brent Barrett, Sally Mayes, Richard Muenz, and Lynne Wintersteller. The revue won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical and all the authors garnered Drama Desk Award nominations for their contributions. Because CLOSER THAN EVER received enormous critical and financial success, RCA gave it a lush two disc recording--further insuring its popularity outside of New York.
