This is the first major critical appraisal of the works of controversial British playwright Peter Barnes, who died in 2004. As well as a biographical account of Barnes' life, the book is a detailed study of his best-known plays, their theatrical and sociopolitical contexts and Barnes' thematic concerns.
Peter Barnes' plays include "Red Noses," "Dreaming" and "The Ruling Class." He died in June 2004.
Brian Woolland is senior lecturer in theatre at the University of Reading in England.
