Summary
This is a dream-play about human relationships, about the shifts between imagination and reality, isolation and communion. A soldier dreams he goes home to a changed family, imagines his father a king whom he dethrones and his girl a servant to whom he wants to marry himself when he becomes king and sole power in the land, i.e., of his own destiny. As in most modern allegories, power is destructive (he forces his best friend to suicide for loyalty) and destiny is a funeral march instead of a wedding march. The playwright's introduction portends ambiguity, but the well-translated text is clear and devastating in its message. It is a tragicomedy to be broadly played with artifical stylization, as absurd as Arrabel and Ionesco if 'absurd' is still a genre. Male: 8 Translated by Louis Iribarne
