A tutor lives by the sea and from his window he sees the yachts of the wealthy. His charge is a forlorn boy whose parents haven't time for him and who comes from his family's yacht to study. The boy doesn't need to learn; he's going to inherit millions, so why sweat? In truth, they need each other. The boy has learned to read while pretending otherwise and the tutor is dependent on the boy for the income to keep himself alive. Published in the collection Friends and Enemies.
