Summary
Early 17th Century cost. Cellini has just come through a terrible adventure. He has killed one, Maffio, and he stands in danger of arrest - worse than arrest. But was he not set upon by a gang of three and forced to defend himself? The Duke comes to pronounce punishment on him, but the Duke's eyes light on Angela and he relents as he takes her off to the Summer Palace. The Duchess arrives and invites Cellini to the Summer Palace also. Here the plight of the four lovers runs into hilarious comedy and the treacherous Polverino is killed. Now Cellini is in real danger and the rope is about his neck, but after various comic machinations Angela returns to her Duke and Cellini to his Duchess.
