Two announcers want you to make a pledge for their telethon today. They don't have mugs, but they have mice. An Old Woman drinks coffee from a bowl, a Teenage Girl calls her dead grandparents, and the kid's show characters Beep and Bop aren't actually real. A bonkers TV telethon goes in and out of the dark and asks existential questions of everyone no matter what side of the phone they're on.

A part of the collection Keen Teens: Volume 4

Landlines premiered at the Keen Teens Festival in New York City in May 2016 under the direction of Liz Carlson.

CASTING NOTES

Characters can be double, triple, or even quadruple cast or played by individual actors. Basically everyone other than the Announcers and Beep and Bop can play multiple characters. We think it would be cool if Teenage Girl and Old Woman were played by the same person doing different voices. Any gender can play any character! Don’t worry about stage directions specifying “him” and “her.”
