WINNER! 1997 Baker's Plays High School Playwrighting Contest
The Broadway Café
is presented in a style reminiscent of Rodgers and Hart and George and Ira Gershwin, this clever musical sings about the heartaches and hardships of a group of young actors trying to make it in love and onto Broadway.
Not only did two ninth graders write the book, music, and lyrics for this lively musical, they went on to produce and direct it themselves - casting twenty-six of their friends! This was an unprecedented musical event in their town, and now it is reaching its larger audience.
Full of terrific songs like "Failure," "Day Job," "The Broadway Café", and "Dumped, Ditched." Lyrics like, "Our nights we're reading Shakespeare, our days we're fixing shakes here."
