Interior Set

A prominent author of novels and "true crime"stories enters a secluded mental institution to interview a serial killer who has been confined there for thirty years. The superintendent of the institution does not want the interview to take place and is hostile. In an effort to make the writer to understand what it means to be insane, he restrains him in a straight jacket. Then he pulls out a scalpel; he is the serial killer. The inmates have taken over the asylum and killed all of the staff except for "Nurse Plimpton". Actually a doctor, she tries to intervene and is gruesomely dispatched or so the audience thinks. Mindgame was a riveting hit in London's West End and later Off-Broadway starring Keith Carradine directed by Ken Russell

Horowitz puts his action in a secure unit for serial killers. A journalist arrives, hoping to interview one of the inmates for a book that he is preparing. He meets the director of the institution who puts every difficulty in his way. All is not quite right, and the arrival of a nurse who is obviously fearful does nothing to relieve the growing tensions. Twists and turns mean that the audience is always behind the plot until the ending, when all is made clear after we witness torture and murder - or did we?
An intriguing set which challenges the audience - Did we really see that right? Drama, melodrama, black comedy, grand guignol... everything is here, and great fun it is too.
