In this devastatingly funny play by one of America's most popular playwrights of Christian drama, we find an idealistic young man who believes he can start the perfect church. And of course, he runs into a myriad of problems: active participation, selection of a pastor, choice of music director, policy on church doctrine, outreach for membership, and so on. Although this easy to produce play is mostly amusing, it does make an important point -- don't give up on your church and its problems, but join together in unity of mind and heart to create a better place of worship.
The First Church of Pete's Garage was originally presented at Grace baptist Church in Bowie, Maryland on August 27th, 1982.

PETE - the idealistic young man who believes he can start a perfect church.

DAN - Pete's long suffering friend and "secretary."
TERRY - tries to stay practical and logical amidst this obvious insanity.
JIM - he sees opportunity in their new church personal opportunity.
FRED - he has a very "object"-ive attitude about the church plus some ideas of his own on its outreaches.
RALPH - one of the members who thinks about food a lot and reaches out to others who think like him.
CHRIS - only motivation is to get home to do homework.
LESLIE - she wants to direct the choir.
ANN - she wants to direct the choir, too.
WALLY - he's a dirty, smelly bum Ralph brings in off the street (literally)
