Based on actual events, White Buffalo tells the story of the miracle birth of a white buffalo calf on a small farm in southern Wisconsin. When Carol Gelling discovers that one of the buffalo on her farm is born white in color, she thinks nothing more of it than a curiosity. Soon, however, she learns that this is the fulfillment of an ancient prophecy believed by the Sioux to bring peace on earth and unity to all mankind. Her little farm is quickly overwhelmed with religious pilgrims, bringing her into contact with a culture and faith that is wholly unfamiliar to her. When a mysterious businessman offers to buy the calf for two million dollars, Carol is thrown into doubt about whether to profit from the religious beliefs of others or to keep true to a spirituality she knows nothing about.
White Buffalo was first presented at the Purple Rose Theatre in Chelsea, Michigan, on March 20th 2012.

I love this play. I saw the original production at The Purple Rose Theater in Michigan. I found it very moving. I think they should produce it in more places.

Don Zolidis knows his craft and has created a meaningful drama in The White Buffalo.  The dialogue is just wonderful.  It moves the action in a humorous, natural way, revealing characters in conflict while two plots intertwine their way to a dramatic climax.  I was pleased with how he took a real event and created something that caught my imagination and emotions at the same time.  This is no easy fluff piece to produce, and it must be done with care.  Actors must have range and lose themselves in the motives of their characters.  The director must capture the vision in the play and use his/her own vision to create a natural catharsis with the audience that so many of today's plays miss.  This play is as finely crafted as any I have ever read.  Don Zolidis is as good as any.
