A comedic romp into the world of fantasy role-playing games, She Kills Monsters tells the story of Agnes Evans as she leaves her childhood home in Ohio following the death of her teenage sister, Tilly. When Agnes finds Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, however, she stumbles into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was Tilly’s refuge. In this high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and 90s pop culture, acclaimed young playwright Qui Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all.

I was blown away when I saw it at the Flea.  Everyone should do it everywhere.  And they are!

I recently was involved in a production of She Kills Monsters, and it has to be one of the most fun plays I've ever had the honour to perform. At the baseline, the script is a little..."basic?" I'm not quite sure what word to use. Much of the script seems to follow a general story line, and some of the lines seem like stock. But once the play is read out loud by the performers, it transforms into something magical. The script lends itself to a myriad of creative opportunities. It truly comes to life on the stage. It is both hilarious and heartbreaking. It's an awesome play that gives the entire cast creativity in creating these fantastic roles.
