A SAMUEL FRENCH, INC. TITLE
Short Play, Dramatic Comedy / 1w, 1m
Jean Lenox Toddie
Winner! John Gassner Playwriting Contest and the Princeton Players One Act Playwriting Contest
This is a story of a zestful, youthful courtship. She is sixty-eight and he is seventy-nine. They put their moves on each other in a minuet that is a joy to behold. Published with Scent of Honeysuckle.
IRMASAMUEL
Both SAMUEL and IRMA have the ageless quality of the very old, so the age of the actors is unimportant. If younger performers play the parts, it is suggested they avoid obvious makeup and suggest age by subtle whitening of eyebrows and hair and by moving with the caution of the elderly. The perfommers, whether youthful or mature, should avoid caricature, juxtaposing the characters' somewhat comic aspects with gentle inner dignity.
