Overview
The true story of Margaretha Zelle, a young Dutch girl who married a soldier much older than herself, and is swept off to the wilds of Malaysia where she is treated brutally by her husband, and one of her two children is poisoned. She leaves her husband, goes to Paris, becomes a famous exotic dancer, calling herself Mata Hari, has many love affairs with important men and becomes involved in espionage for the French during World War I. Discovered by the Germans who see to it that the French think that she's betrayed them. She is then executed by the French. This fascinating sometimes foolish woman led a most colorful, dramatic life and has been much maligned by the history books. New information has come to light that exonerates her and is brought out in this dramatic, witty and colorful play.
