Labor of Love

Overview

In this provocative social drama, Carl Newman, a prominent journalist with Labor connections, is writing an authorized biography of Oscar Zeller, a legendary Labor leader and his longtime friend. In the book, Carl wants to include the fact that the unions, over the years, have used gangsters to protect themselves and survive. Publishing this fact would cause Oscar to lose his important position as advisor to the President. A conflict ensues, involving Oscar's wife and daughter. Though the play deals with weighty subject matter, the dialogue is sophisticated, containing wit and humor.
