Darkpool

Overview

This longer one act, which could be a full evening of theatre, takes place at the headquarters of Darkpool Associates, a vast, labyrinthine building somewhere outside Washington DC, where two of the company's operatives, Dutch and Mick, have been called back from their dangerous overseas assignment after an incident in which a number of innocent persons were killed. Darkpool is a firm contracted by the government to provide security and support for a military effort in an unnamed foreign country, and its president, Max, is a messianic born again Christian who believes that Jesus will be returning with automatic weapons to slaughter infidels from a helicopter and help multinational corporations take over the world. He has brought in a young lawyer, Justine, who specializes in public relations, to try and make sure this bloody incident does not result in convictions that bring down the company. Dutch is a veteran soldier of fortune who has seen pretty much everything, but Mick is a young Ohio farm boy who is troubled by what happened and is inclined to tell the truth. Justine develops a relationship with Mick, and tension develops between the two friends when Dutch tries to convince Mick that Justine is just trying to keep him under control. As it becomes increasingly clear to Max that Mick is going to be a serious problem, Dutch is forced to make a terrible choice. Tense and darkly funny.
