Overview
A delightful westernization of Anton Chekhov's The Marriage Proposal. One of the greatest, funniest farces ever written, transferred to the brand new state of Oklahoma, circa 1920. To Mabel Hightower's porch comes spastically nervous P. J. Hastings, hemming and hawing to the Mrs. about the hand in marriage of her daughter, Jessie. And the young Hightower is a dynamo - opinionated, spunky and restless. Many battles are fought before the kiss is placed: boundary disputes, cattle vs sheep, demented relatives, etc. This is a wonderful adaptation with strong characters and sharp dialogue. Easy to produce.
