Jean Anouilh

Full Length, Comedy

9 m, 3 f, 2 children

Int./ext.

Rex Harrison starred as the "Fighting Cock" in this French apologia for pragmatism. The General has made every diplomatic blunder in his life, was on the wrong side of every coup, and now, though retired, has retained his strict attitude toward life. He launches a campaign to "rid the world of maggots and teach the people honor." A spartan, and determined to make his countrymen pay for every perceived indulgence, his rigid world collapses when he challenges the youth who jilts his daughter to a duel and emerges abashed and humiliated.

"A wise and witty play." -Daily Mirror

"Sitting at the center of a meaningless universe, Anouilh has improvised another brilliant comedy." -N.Y. Times

FEE: $75 per performance.
