Drama

Ari Roth, based on the book by Peter Sichrovsky

4 m., 3 f. to play various roles.

Unit set.

In 1988 Peter Sichrovsky's book electrified readers with harrowing testimonies culled from interviews with children of Nazi and SS officials. This dramatic adaptation up dates that inquiry and focuses on the Austrian Jewish journalist's journey through Germany to ascertain what those he interviewed knew of their parent's war time deeds. The play charts the impact of these interviews on Peter Sichrovsky's personal and professional life. His obsessive quest to find those who killed his grandmother leads to entanglements, some humorous, with bureaucrats and with resistant sons and daughters. Peter tries to rise above the darkness of his interrogations by searching for someone with whom he might bridge the gulf of hatred and distrust. That search leads him to a woman caught between loyalty to her father and love for her teenage son who has discovered that her father stole their house from a Jewish family that died at Auschwitz Birkenau.

"Rivetting. Gripping. Searing. A wonderful play." N.Y. Times.

"Provocative. . . . Dazzling. . . . A play to make you think." N.Y. Post.

FEE: $75 per performance.
