When a semi-trailer rig jackknifes on the highway outside Scranton PA, three delightfully earthy passengers emerge unscathed. There is the hefty, modern day Pied-Piper, Sailor; his sidekick, Danny; and Sailor's seventeen year old sweetheart, Lolly. The three are put up by a motel hostess, Maude Dade. Prodded by Maude, Sailor fakes an injury and plans to collect a fortune in insurance. Enter a fumbling country doctor, the troopers investigating the accident, and a suspicious insurance lawyer - and the fun begins to build. Although the relationship between Sailor and Maude appears to be antagonistic, they feel a strong attraction for each other which cannot be denied. Somewhere along th way, Danny declares his love for Lolly, who relizes she loves him too. Afraid to tell Sailor, they plan to run away. In the hilarious confusion of the last act, the letter of the law defers the better interests of all concerned, the love interests are appropriately matched, and even the insurance company lawyer feels pretty good about the whole thing.
