Stephanie Zimbalist starred in this moving drama at the Pasadena Playhouse and Long Wharf Theatre. A wealthy woman has everything except a child, Rachel locates a poor couple who have agreed to let their next baby be adopted by she and her husband. Desperate for a healthy baby, Rachel is paying the prenatal care for mother-to-be Wanda and all hospital expenses. Appalled to find that the Wanda is not eating correctly and shocked when the father makes a pass at her, the whole arrangement nearly falls through. When it is discovered that the baby possibly suffered brain damage during the difficult birth, her husband backs away but Rachel wants wants the baby regardless. In the end, the childless couple leaves the baby's parents with another mouth to feed.
