The year is 1939. Gertie Lennox, a celebrated professional hostess, goes to Ottumwa, Iowa to organize a wedding party. She becomes involved in the lives of the inhabitants of the small town, especially with the three love-tom young people. She initiates a change in their lives, which ends up affecting her own life as well.
