David Williamson

Little Theatre

Comedy

3 m., 3 f.

Unit set.

Colin, a critically praised but commercially under successful screenwriter, and his wife Kate, an editor, move from Melbourne to Sydney the major leagues. Colin joins forces with an aggressive, fast talker named Mike who is a genius at making deals. Mike parlays this association into cinematic projects which make him a global tycoon. His plans to develop one of Kate's pet projects a serious aboriginal novel by transplanting the story to Tennessee with Eddie Murphy starring force Colin and Kate to reassess their values. This graceful and grimly funny play is by the screenwriter of The Year of Living Dangerously and Gallipoli.

"Hype and Hypocrisy amusingly help to speed the plow on the road to Emerald City." N.Y. Times.

"Winsomely cynical." Time Magazine.

"Funny and engaging.... His characters must be as much fun to play as they are to listen to." N.Y. Post.

"This examination of how the noble ambition for fame deteriorates into lust for money and power, and how relationships of every kind subsist on deception, deserves our delightedly undivided attention. 'Emerald City' portrays human rivalry with maximum comic and dramatic effect because it is as humorous as it is witty." N.Y. Magazine.

FEE: $75 per performance.
