What if the three wise men weren’t really all that wise? What if they were just three ordinary guys, avoiding conflicts at home, who happened upon the greatest story ever told? Now add music, set the entire story in modern day America, sprinkle in a little redneck humor, and you have the smash A Good Old Fashioned Redneck Country Christmas: The Musical!

Bill, Dave, and Jimmy have had it with their women! Even though it’s Christmas Eve, and tradition dictates they should be home, drinking hot cocoa and singing carols, the boys decide to high-tail it into the mountains for a little hunting and a lot of beer. This protest does nothing to improve the mood of the women back in town. Lou runs Lou’s Diner. She and Bill and have been trying (unsuccessfully) to have a baby. Barbie Jo, Lou’s head waitress, is married to Dave, and they have kids, but Dave’s not interested in family this year. Darlene, the most beautiful girl in three counties is dating Jimmy, but while she’s ready to settle down, Jimmy can’t stand the idea of “committment”.

It’s gonna take a Christmas miracle to get these redneck families back together! Thank God one just came to town!

Character Descriptions:
LOU (LOUISE) WEXLER – Lou is a bubbling bundle of energy. She takes command of the stage like she takes command of her diner. Mid 30s, she is attractive, intelligent, and well-respected. She has a feminine build with a generous bust line. Lou is always moving, and dispensing tough, no-nonsense wisdom as she bounces from one task to another. She speaks with a slight southern drawl which is warm and welcoming – never hillbilly harsh.
BILL WEXLER – Bill is a retired marine who served in the First Gulf War and is married to Lou. Mid to late 30s, he is taller than the other men, wears his hair in a typical military style, and has an air of authority that is impossible to miss. He speaks with the same warm, southern drawl that Lou uses. Bill personifies male leadership.
DAVE FOX – Dave is a typical, married father of two in his 30s who just happens to speak with a southern drawl and work as a butcher. Way down deep inside, he loves his wife and children, but he feels that his mother-in-law is just too much to deal with at Christmas.
BARBIE JO FOX – Barbie Jo is the beleaguered wife of Dave and the daughter of Verna Belle. She is attractive but frazzled. She never quite manages to look completely put together. Speaks with warm, southern accent.
JIMMY WEAVER – Jimmy considers himself the ‘lady’s man’ in town. In his mid 20s, he is cute and charming, but he isn’t terribly smart. He loves Darlene, but he’s not ready to give up his bachelor life, if only to make Bill and Dave jealous. Jimmy speaks with a distinct southern drawl.
DARLENE FULMER – Darlene is the lollipop under the Christmas tree! In her early 20s, she is blonde and built! She is a typical rodeo queen with horses on her mind and cowboys on her tail. No hairstyle is too big, no jewelry too outrageous for Darlene. Speaks with the southern drawl typical of all Christmas residents.
BOB/NARRATOR – Bob is a truck driver in his 50s or 60s who is also a road warrior/philosopher. He sees every obstacle as a new challenge and an opportunity to observe people. Bob may speak with or without a southern drawl.
MARY SUR ARCHER – Mary Sue is the unwitting ‘gift of Christmas’. She is a young woman in her late teens or early 20s who arrives in town on the evening bus. Her second-hand coat cannot close over the huge bump of her pregnant belly.
MARK RILEY – Mark is a twenty year-old, first year medical student and the only son of the town doctor. He speaks with a southern drawl as well, but it need not be as pronounced as the others.
CHARLIE REYNOLDS – A man from 30 to 60. A quick walk-on role to get things going. Charlie and Lou are old friends. Charlie may be doubled by either Jimmy or Dave, but if the director makes this choice, please have the actor wear the suit and overcoat, and maybe a fake mustache and/or glasses to throw the audience off the track.
