Lucinda McDermott is the author of over a dozen produced and published plays including Feeding On Mulberry Leaves which had its world premiere at Barter Theatre (winner of the Appalachian Playwrights Festival 2005), and which has been produced at a number of regional and community theatres and universities. O'Keeffe!, her critically acclaimed one-woman play celebrating the life of artist Georgia O'Keeffe published by Playscripts premiered Off-Broadway at Primary Stages, and has toured nationally and internationally with McDermott in the title role, and is published by Playscripts, Inc. Take Out and Betting On Serenity premiered with Off Stage Theatre, Charlottesville. Journey to Bethlehem premiered at All Hallows Stage, Wyncote, PA. Other plays include commissions Souvenirs for Primary Stages, NYC; Courage by the Sea for the Gibbes Museum of Art, Charleston, SC; The Inferno and Photographers on Photography for the Chrysler Museum of Art, Norfolk, VA; Lily y la Mariposa and Rappin' Rapunzel for the Generic Theatre, Norfolk, VA. Bricks has been produced by City Theatre, Miami, FL, and The Univ. of Wisconsin, and is published by Dramatic Publishing. Shatter the Vessel, the Controversial Life of Bishop James A. Pike has had multiple staged readings throughout the country and a workshop production at the University of Virginia. McDermott lives in the New River Valley of Virginia where she freelances as an actor, playwright, director, and teaching artist. She is one part of the Americana duo Ball & Chain with her husband Jon Piro (www.ballnchainmusic.com). She has taught playwriting and acting at various universities. She is an A+ fellow with the NC A+ School Program. Lucinda holds a MFA in playwriting from the Univ. of Virginia, and a BFA in acting from VCU. She trained as an actor in NYC with Michael Moriarty, Rob Spera, AIA, and HB Studios. She is a member of Actor's Equity Assoc. and the Dramatists Guild of America.
