CRYSTAL SKILLMAN is an award-winning playwright and screenwriter based on Brooklyn. She is the author of the plays Geek, Cut, and King Kirby (co-written with frequent co-writer Fred Van Lente), all critics picks from the NY Times. She is the musical theater book writer of Mary and Max, based on the film, written with Award Winning ASCAP Composer/Lyricist Bobby Cronin, in development with director Stafford Arima, as well as The Cover, featuring Ali Stroker. She just made her Off-Broadway debut with a new play commission, The Test, at A.R.T./NY's new theater on 53rd Street. Plays include: Rain and Zoe Save the World (2017 O’Neill Semi-Finalist, 2017 Blue Ink Award Finalist Winner, 2016 New Harmony Project, 2016 Oregon Performance Lab), Pulp Vérité (2016 Seven Devils Finalist, 2016 BAPF Finalist, 2015 Clifford Odets Ensemble Play Commission,), as well as Another Kind of Love, a punk rock play (Chopin Theater with InFusion Theatre Co., 2015, Chicago) hailed by the Chicago Reader as a “Masterpiece”. Awards include two Ensemble Studio Theater/Alfred P. Sloan commissions, as well as the New York Innovation Award (Outstanding Full Length Play forThe Vigil or the Guided Cradle). TV/Film includes original pilots Paper Heroes, Blue Book, Crooked Land, co-written with Fred Van Lente, and the screenplay Drunk Art Love.
