Business Affairs Associate

Samuel French, the iconic and today’s most exciting theatrical play/musical publishing and licensing company located in Manhattan, is hiring a Business Affairs Associate to assist in the operations of the Business Affairs department, providing legal and contractual support both internally and with our author/agent clients and producing theatre customers.

The Business Affairs Associate at Samuel French should be an organized and ambitious problem-solver with a proactive approach to working with a busy team.  The Business Affairs Associate will collaborate with all departments in the company to ensure that Samuel French complies with all of its legal and business responsibilities.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the Business Affairs department with new initiatives
  • Researching contractual and legal issues
  • Drafting agreements
  • Managing the dissemination of contractual information internally
  • Assisting in the enforcement of contracts and copywrite protection.
  • Generating contract-related data for Salesforce and other systems-related updates 
  • Maintaining physical and digital contract files for archives
  • Processing rights and permissions requests
  • Providing administrative assistance to the Executive Director 


  • A deep understanding and passion for theatre.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Thorough experience with Microsoft Office.
  • At least one year of experience working as a company manager, agent’s assistant, legal assistant or stage manager is a plus but not required.
  • Applicants must enjoy working as part of a motivated team in a high-volume department and be willing to support other team members when help is needed. 
  • Experience with Salesforce is a plus, but not required.
  • Knowledge of theatrical contracts and copyright law a plus but not required.
