Licensing Representative

Samuel French, Inc., the world’s premiere theatrical play publishing and licensing company, is hiring a Licensing Representative to join our extraordinary team. The Licensing Representative is responsible for liaising between amateur theatres of all sizes about Samuel French’s exceptional roster of plays and musicals, thus ensuring that licenses are issued in a timely and accurate manner. In addition, this team member will collaborate with the Licensing Manager, Literary Director, and the Marketing team to implement campaigns around plays and musicals in the Collegiate Market, and work to support the amateur team in the administration of projects related to finance and compliance.

Responsibilities will also include but aren’t limited to:

  • Communication with theatres regarding their season programming. 
  • Communicating with authors and authors’ agents.
  • Maintaining a high-level of knowledge about the Samuel French Catalog, including new titles (e.g. reading and reporting on plays). 
  • Processing and shipping production materials.
  • Managing administrative projects for the Amateur Licensing team.
  • Promoting new Samuel French products to an existing customer base.
  • Working with other departments to resolve customer account issues.


  • 2-3 years of experience in professional theatre industry or related field
  • Knowledge of theatre professionals, including established and emerging playwrights, and leaders in the arts world. 
  • Working knowledge of the licensing of plays/musicals and/or standard theatre contracts.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including a warm, patient, and engaging personality.
  • Applicants must enjoy working as part of a motivated team and be willing to support other team members when help is needed.  
  • Strong computer experience is required (including Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Experience with Salesforce or comparable CRM is a plus.
  • A deep understanding and passion for theatre is a must.
