In the year 1940, Inspector John Ruffing, now an old man, is enlisted to patrol the shore near Rye at night, to watch for a German invasion, but all he can think about is his much beloved young wife, who disappeared mysteriously in the ocean many years ago. As he walks along the shore at night he hears voices, and it seems as if somebody is calling to him from the ocean. Eerie and compelling, part of the long cycle of Inspector Ruffing plays which includes Mephisto, Demonology, Creatures Lurking In The Churchyard, The Rooky Wood, Widdershins, Phantoms, and Ravenscroft.
