Part satire, part street theater, part actual protest, The Death of Off-Broadway assembles audiences, performers, and a flexible ensemble to take the cause of experimental, downtown theatre to the streets, following Eyens comical but geniune "Ten Easy Steps for a Street Demonstration." Dedicated "to the many people who lost more duing a strik than they could ever have gained," this innovative piece was first presented in 1970 on the streets of New York, beginning in front of the Astor Place Theatre, progressing to other Off-Broadway theaters, and ending at the Theatre de Lys. Listed among the original cast are real-life newscasters who covered the event as well as the large ensemble or performers.
