Summary
The authors have created another rollicking comedy of youth. And they have not missed a trick in capturing all the baffling, surprising, and heart-touching humor of the situation. Professor Dunlap, opinionated and a trifle tyrannical, has written a popular psychology book about a model child - his own Jennie, a high school Senior. But he shows little genuine understanding of her as an individual. Jennie fancies herself in love with a college Senior who only stirs up trouble for himself when he advises her to "be herself" instead of the ideal her father has created. Then the fast-moving complications grow. Pursued by two boys her own age and abetted by a wise-cracking girlfriend, Jennie has a date with the local college football hero, leads a dance and then the band at a college football rally, and generally becomes the belle of the ball - to the extent of getting her pictures into all the local papers and bringing down calamity on nearly everyone concerned. But before Jennie and her funny young friends finish with them, the members of the older generation are also "being themselves" - with hilarious results.
