Summary
A successful New York Play director has undergone an emotional and personal crisis. He is trying to get back on his feet and his friends are reaching out to try to help him. Unfortunately, people have never devised a system of really communicating with each other, as he talks to first the janitor, then the young girl who rescued him from alcoholism, then the woman he is in love with, then the producer and friend who is putting on his come back play, and finally his son. He, and they, fail to really understand the other's needs. They even fail to understand their own needs. This failure is played out at all levels.

CHARLIE- Middle-aged man in late forties, early fifties. As the play describes him, the appearance of the ex-athlete; thinning hair and thickening waistline; an extrovert.
