Many years after the tragic loss of his father, a young man who has become the presumptive head of his family is moving out so he can pursue his own destiny. He and each member of his family face a crossroad. Sean feels he must leave or he will always be living his life for his mother in his father's image. His sister, a woman unmoved by sentiment, is faced with shouldering the responsibility of caring for their mother and dealing with the various illnesses she has used, in addition to her brutal work schedule, to control her children.
