Summary
Here is one of the most successful adaptations of the idea of the relationship between reality and theatre that has been seen on the stage. Morgan Crawford, playwright, is told by a friend that he doesn't live with his characters long enough to know them and advances the theory that characters may really have an existence of their own. Morgan falls asleep and, dreaming, finds himself coming before the curtain and telling the audience that he will show them how a play is written. Things grow more complicated than Morgan had imagined as he sees his characters working out their own destinies, involving Morgan, himself.
