Summary

Twelve-year-old Ashleigh rules the Lady Jean Ladies, South Florida’s most exclusive horse club. News that her family’s stables are being sold and their horses killed for meat throws the Ladies into crisis in this dark comedy of middle school deception and lies. Horse Girls is a play about pre-teens: their obsessions, their insecurities and their desperate need to find a place in the world.

History
Horse Girls was developed at Fordham/Primary Stages and was workshopped in Ars Nova's ANTFest 2013. It had its world premiere in association with Collaboraction in Chicago in August 2013 under the direction of Rebecca Stevens, and it received its New York premiere at The Cell directed by Sarah Krohn.

LADY JEAN LADY OFFICERS
ASHLEIGH WHITFORD
– (F/12 yrs old) President of the Lady Jean Ladies. The leader and the most experienced rider in the bunch. She used to be fat. All of the girls look up to her, even though she can behorrendous, because there is something dynamic and infectious about her.
TIFFANY GESUVIA – (F/13 yrs old) Vice President of the Lady Jean Ladies. Robin’s older sister. Ashleigh and Tiffany have been best friends since they were born. Tiffany is infinitely jealous of Ashleigh—and always one step behind. Although a smart and an excellent rider, she is never seen because Ashleigh is always blocking the view.
ROBIN GESUVIA – (F/11 yrs old) Secretary of the Lady Jean Ladies. An eager, people pleaser. the youngest in the group. Tiffany’s younger sister.
MARGARET FLANAGHAN – (F/12 yrs old) Treasurer of the Lady Jean Ladies. Wets the bed sometimes. She loves horses and being a part of this club because it makes her feel like less like a freak.
BRANDI MARSHALL – (F/12 yrs old) Historian of the Lady Jean Ladies. Isn’t particularly amazing at riding horses, but she loves the animals. She loves taking care of them. she loves watching them run.

LADY JEAN LADY MEMBERS
CAMILLE LOWENSTEIN 
– (F/13 yrs old) Looks like she should be in the popular group, but it's only because she developed boobs early.

OTHERS
TRISH LOWENSTEIN
– (F/13 yrs old) Camille's cousin who is in from Manhattan. She is liberal, self-aware, and polite, and was taught to always be a gracious guest.
