Since this is Readers' Theatre, care must be taken to choose actors who can create their characters with voice, facial expression, and the limited movement allowed while sitting on a stool. All readers do some narration, so they must be able to do straight narration and then switch to their character's voice and expressions.

The actor who plays The Gargoyle must be able to look fierce at first and then soften his look toward the end of the play. He also must be able to sound like a "crochety old man"
