This delicate play is utterly simple in its premise – an undisguised version of Gabriel’s visitation to Mary. Yet, in the sparse, poetic telling, the characters touch on some of the pathos, but little of the piety, of the event. With dignity, innocence, and humor, playwright Dirk van der Linde captures the essence of extraordinary occurrences in a haunting masterpiece.
