Love Bites premiered as part of Kiss, Then Tell at the La Jolla Country Day School in La Jolla, California on Friday, February 5, 1999. The production was directed by Greg Cummings, who wrote the play as a result of a year-long playwriting residency funded by The Panta Rhea Foundation.
