MRS. ELEANOR ENDICOTT - A pleasant, motherly woman in her mid-forties who thinks only of the welfare and happiness of her children. She is understanding and avid, with a sense of humor.
AGNES ENDICOTT - Twenty four years old, quiet, intelligent and pretty. Deeply in love with David, but a deep sense of responsibility to her mother.
RICCY ENDICOTT - A seventeen year old clean cut American boy, deeply invested in medicine and becoming a doctor.
BERYL ENDICOTT - A chubby, vivacious fifteen year old. Slangy and a bit boy-crazy.
CICELY ENDICOTT - Ten years old and loves to rollerskate and eat bread on sugar. Very precious for her age.
AUNT CAROLINE - Fifty year old woman who is mean, domineering, miserly, bitter in speech and sarcastic in manner.
MISS MABBITT - A frail and tiny woman, very gentle in manner with a soft, sweet voice.
DAVID THOMPSON - A clean-cut, husky young man in his early twenties, a reporter on the local paper.
DAN DONOVAN - Riccy's pal who is the same age or slightly younger. Stockily built like a football player. Loyal and rather timid in terms of girls.
MISS. LOUSIE MACLAIN - A pretty and cultured young woman about twenty-four years old.
UNA HAGMAN - A small girl, mean and brattish in manner.
LIEUTENANT CLAYTON - Detective with the Homicide Squad and is a pleasant, wide-awake young man in his twenties.
