Supporting the theatrical community.

Samuel French has a rich history of supporting the theatre community through many diverse outlets. Here you will find many of the initiatives we are involved with on a yearly basis. Whether it is promoting theatre educational programs, or attending events in support of our authors and their work, we like to share in the celebration and cultivation of theatre all around us.

Learning through an Expanded Arts Program (LeAP)

LeAp is a nonprofit organization committed to improving the quality of public education through a hands-on, arts-based approach to teaching the academic curriculum. For the past four years, Samuel French is excited to have partnered with LeAp on their program introducing NYC public middle and high school students to playwriting, play production and theater appreciation through LeAp Onstage. Educational Theatre Association (EdTA) and Thespian Playworks

Thespian Playworks is a writing competition and script-development program for high school students, sponsored by the Educational Theatre Association and run by the staff of Dramatics magazine. Each year, up to four finalists are invited to bring their scripts to the International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, Nebraska, where they work with a professional director, a dramaturg, and a cast of actors to put the short plays up on their feet before a live audience. Samuel French is honored to publish these outstanding plays in a collection. Learn more.

American Association of Community Theatre (AACT)

Samuel French is proud to partner with the American Association of Community Theatre, the national community theatre organization, whose chief goal is to enable community theatres across the country to become the cornerstones of the creative life of their communities—to provide quality entertainment, intellectual stimulation, challenge and opportunity, and to be worthy contributors to an improved quality of life for the communities which they serve. National Alliance of Musical Theatre – Festival of New Musicals (NAMT)

In 1989 the Festival of New Musicals was created to provide a forum to celebrate the new musicals that were being produced and presented around the country. Held in NYC every fall, Samuel French has been proud to be a sponsor as eight new musicals are brought to life in front of an industry-only audience with the hope to gain them greater exposure and a future life.
