Overview

Ben, a man of 62, living in isolation, becomes fascinated by a story about the Scottish philosopher David Hume, sitting alone in his study one night, becoming terrified that if he opened the door, nothing would be there. Hume works up the courage to open the door, finds his friends playing billiards, and this reassures him that there is such a thing as objective reality, and cause and effect does exist. This leads Ben to thoughts of a rather different experience, of his father using a pool table to quietly give his son a lesson about reality. But what is really on the other side of the door? A quietly powerful play for a mature actor.
