Overview

Produced nationally through the ART program, this is Mr. Anderson's story of a teacher who was superb at his trade, until he tried to become something else. All his students remember Professor David Ives as the wellspring of their talent and creativity, and one of them returns to pay his respects. This is the very season Ives has given over to writing the great American opus, and today is his breaking point. For the fact is, he has put the matter off so long that recovery is now impossible. He must face the fact that he has more talent for teaching than for writing. The tensions within the family, as the wife's old flame comes by and as Ives realizes what sacrifices she has made for him, are piteously exposed. By the author of Tea and Sympathy and All Summer Long.
