Overview

Seven men and a girl are caught in a basement saloon when the banks of a river overflow, trapping them. Facing probable death, the natures of all eight undergo definite changes. A cheating broker becomes fantastically inspired by the thought of forming a great human chain of brotherhood; a "shyster" lawyer preaches the claims of the soul; the self-seeking broker admits to the girl of the streets that she is the only woman he ever loved and that he married for money. Within a half hour after they are released, they have reverted to type; they are selfish, human, honest, or tricky according to their kind.
