Enjoyed one of the longest Broadway runs on record. The hilarious story concerns the adventures and misadventures of a New York columnist, Jim Stackhouse. First he tries to marry off a beautiful but obnoxious actress, Pam, to a rich man-about-town by arranging to have her star in a play written by his younger and more naive brother, Don. But Jim miscalculates, the play is a hit, and Pam marries Don to insure her theatrical career. Jim sets about to break up the union by threatening to reveal the lady's shady past, in his column, but is prevented by his secretary who pleads for a three months' armistice. When Jim the woman-hater discovers at the end of that period that Pam has all but ruined his brother financially and has, in addition, insisted upon being a wife in name only, Jim determines to make his brother happy by blackmailing Pam into becoming a good wife. His success is greater than he had hoped. Before the final curtain, even Jim is lured into a union with his adoring Girl Friday.
