Overview
Taking place during the crucifixion, the playlets that comprise Eyes Upon the Cross catch characters in the life of Jesus at this time: Mary the Mother, the Centurian, Judas, Barabbas, Simon, Peter, and Mary Magdalene. Each playlet reflects a sentence spoken by Jesus on the cross and is complete in itself, or more can be combined for a fuller drama. We never see the cross or Jesus, but both are a vivid part of the play. The somber theme is lightened by flashes of humor. Audience members may ask themselves, "What would I do in these circumstances?" The crucifixion becomes real and relevant.
For several years Eyes Upon the Cross was performed in Jerusalem on Good Friday both in English and Arabic. It has recieved international use.
